It's not possible...

... that I have not updated this page in 2 months!!

OK, it is. And I'm crap. It's official. I admit it.

So, where did we leave off last time... ah yes... we were still in March!

What a great month, that started with a visit from Paul (London) and Stephen (Sydney). While they were here, it was time to have the housewarming. Enjoying what turned out to be the last hot day of the year, our friends braved 38 degree heat and partied hard with us. Photos, as always, are on Flickr. Thanks to everyone who came along.

Moving onto April, we started with a sad event. After a while in Melbourne, Megan got itchy feet again and prepared for her move to Thailand. She couldn't go without a decent send-off, so we went to The Canary Club, one of our favourite places in Melbourne. Lots of tapas and too many bottles of red wine later, Megan was well and truly "waved off". What a night!

Unexpectedly we were also joined by Janet & John, friends from the UK, who were on a quick visit to Melbourne on their pan-Australian trip. Great to see you guys!

Next it was Georgia and Christian's housewarming. Again, our apologies for being sooooooo hungover that we could not party. Blame Megan!

The next weekend we had another leaving do (of sorts!) for Megan... a Yarra Valley winery tour. What a great day! Jay couldn't make it because of his radio show... shame!

After that, it was straight to St Kilda to celebrate Lee's birthday at another favourite eating place, Blue Corn.

And no April would be complete without "The Festival of Garry". The period where I stretch my birthday for as many days as I can. This year, as we have the new house, and because our new dining table and chairs arrived on my birthday (yippee!!) it had to be a dinner party. Well, two, as we couldn't fit everyone in on one night.

I should also say a big thank you for all the cards, gifts and wishes from around the globe. A special shout out to Sara for the fabulous hamper! Oh how I enjoyed that Verve!! And the chocolates. And biscuits... how well you know me.

Isn't life fun?!

So where'd we leave off last time? Ah yes... we were off to the theatre, dahlings! What can I say... Melanie... we love it, as always.

Now it's time to talk about my last triathlon of the season.

When the results came through it turned out that my team came in the top 15%!! Not bad for a field event of over 5,000 competitors! Needless to say, I was stunned. If only I'd not done soooo badly in the swim, I would have been the fastest in my group for all three legs. But as Meatloaf once said, two outta three ain't bad.

I know that this "sportiness" has come as a bit of a shock to some of you. Let me allay your fears... since the last event it's been fast food and too much alcohol (as evidenced on Flickr!)

So, what's next? Well, we headed straight from the triathlon to Geelong, where we celbrated a friend's dad's 80th. Many happies Ern!

Since then we've been settling into the new place and spending too much money at Ikea and Bunnings (that's B&Q to the UK-ites!) Oh the joys of home owership.

Of course, it's all worth it when you're finally settled enough (and OLD enough!) to enjoy spending some time in the garden. Dear, oh dear... we really have crossed over from the party lifestyle to the "pottering-around-the-garden-happy-as-a-pig-in-shit"!!

But fear not... the party animal is in us somewhere. And this was proved this weekend, when we had Paul over from the UK, Stephen over from Sydney. It was time to show the new house how the McGhieVoy family parties! They say a picture paints a thousand words, and the sites you'll see on Flickr veryify that to be true!

Triathlon - done! House cooling - done! Move - done!

So, I survived the triathlon. Better than that... we came 26th out of 90-odd, which I thought was quite good. Well, I thought it was good until I realised it meant WE QUALIFIED!!!

When I agreed to do the triathlon, it was on the understanding that we had a cat in hell's chance of qualifying (for another [harder] triathlon!!)

So after the triathlon it was time for a KFC family bucket. Only a fair reward for all that training and a WHOLE weekend without booze.

We also had a few friends over for a "house cooling" party. Like a house warming, only you trash the old place, not the new place!! A great time was had by all... again - pics at Flickr.

Monday was tough. Drinking on a school night is NEVER a good idea!!! Lucky it was a short day as we were picking the keys up to our new place!! So 10am start and 2pm finish... lovely.

Tue was moving day - YEUCHHH! We'd forgotten how hideous moving was!! Big thanks to Tim, though, for using one of his 'lady of leisure' days to assist. Pics at Flickr.

Wed was even more fun... over at the old place, scrubbing it ready for the inspection. HIDEOUS!! But we got all our bond back (and a gold star from the agency) so it was worth it!

Thu onwards has been hard work and settling in. I can't believe we've been in for over a week. Where has time gone?

The move and the triathlon are looming!

Well, it seemed to take and age but arrive very quickly at the same time! The 90 day settlement is nearly over and we move into our new pad on Tuesday (we pick up the keys on Monday).

So last weekend and this weekend has been fun-filled with packing - yuk!

Tomorrow (Sunday) is also Garry's first triathlon (well, where I do all three events anyway!) Let's hope the seas are calmer than they have been of late.

After the triathlon we're having a "House Cooling" party, to send off the old place in style! More on that next week.

For now... wish us luck with the swim, cycle, run (Garry doing, Jay watching!) and move.

Triathlon 1 down... just the real one to go...

Well, my first experience of a triathlon was exciting!

Though I came 307th, I was still in the top 41%.  Not bad for a non-sporty type, I thought.

Daniel (my boss) did the swim, which was 800m (not 700m as we all thought!)  I did a 26km cycle, then Chris (the young 'un in the group) did an 8km run.  His time was sensational - beating his own personal best by 10%.

I was a little disappointed in my time, but things can only get better.

I am still in training for the real thing on 17 Feb (where I do the swim, cycle then run).  I am still thinking "why oh why did I say yes?" but I'm sure it will be fun on the day.  And the weight loss and fitness gain is a welcome plus.

Woo hoo - the weekend's here again!

If only every week was a 4 day week!

So what's in store? Fri was a quiet one (swimming for Garry, DVDs for Jay!)

Today it's another swimming lesson for Garry (at 33 years old, too!!) I can swim... just not properly. Just 15 more days til the triathlon, so need to learn quick!

Dinner at Gail & Norm's tonight, before Jay goes with them to a pub quiz and Garry comes home for an early night. 04:30 start tomorrow morning, as we need to get to a triathlon event about 90 minutes from Melbourne.

Fortunately, this time round, I'm only doing the cycle. My boss is doing the swim (700m - yuk!) and another colleague is doing the run (8 km - YUK!) But in 2 weeks I'll be doing all three in the same event (YUK YUK YUK) though, fortunately, less distance.

Next day (18 Feb), Jay and I get the keys to the new house! Can't wait... though we're not looking forward to the actual move. Mind you, who does enjoy moving?

Who knows what else the weekend will bring?

The long weekend is over :(

It's been a blast but, alas, it's back to work tomorrow.

We've had a great weekend. It started with a night at the theatre to see a friend's one man show. Robbie - you were fab. I haven't laughed like that in a long time!!

Saturday was the day at the races - you know about that already. I think all hangovers have now cleared. Thanks to everyone who came along.

Sunday was a quieter day (obviously) but we perked up on time to go to the theatre again to see "Dolly Diamond and her 13 piece band". Basically a drag queen with a huge band - like posh karaoke for the gays! Another fantastic night.

Monday has been a public holiday here in Oz (as Australia Day fell on a Saturday - I love that!) It's been a bit quieter... exciting stuff like housework and lots of swimming for Garry. Oh for another day at the races!

Now life gets a bit quieter for both of us. We're saving money pre-move (just 21 more sleeps!) Garry is also training for a triathlon in 20 more sleeps! Aargh! Swim, cycle then run... what the &*%^ possessed me?!?! And as things stand now I could drown in leg 1... but I am having "stroke correction" training!! The less said the better...

A new blog for the new year

It'll probably be as successful as the twice I tried to keep a diary... it'll last a few weeks then I'l get bored of it!

The big event that sparked off the frenzy of photo uploads was the Australia Day races at Hanging Rock.  What fool decided that it would be a good idea to pay $20 (GBP8) for an unlimited supply of booze?  You can imagine the results!  A great day was had by all, though.
