We've reactivated the old blog

Keeping you abreast of events on our Europe trip (25 Jul - 31 Aug)

Jul 31, 2009

Greetings from Alicante!

Day 1 - 27 July

When we last updated the blog, we were heading off to London. We got off the tube at Hounslow and it was wierd to be back in my old stomping ground!

After a well-needed shower and some brekkie, we headed off to lunch with Phillipa in South Kensingon. While we were there, we bought new mobiles. I was using an old phone and it was giving me the sh!ts. So I went to Orange to see how cheap I could buy a new one. I was amazed to find that I could get one on Pay As You Go for GBP15/AUD30!!! As if that wasn't cheap enough, I also had a top-up discount of GBP2.50, so I ended up paying $12.50/AUD25.

In the afternoon, it was time to head down to the Gatwick Hilton for a long sleep (as we'd stayed up all day to beat the jetlag). And boy did we sleep!

Day 2 - 28 July

It was a 04:30 alarm call (lucky the body clock was buggered!) and we headed off across the bridge to Gatwick Airport.

It was time to fly standby for the first time... so the nerves set in! But we got on fine and had 3 seats between the two of us.

Sally picked us up at Alicante airport and we headed to her and Trevor's place - Casa Montana Vista in Salinas, Alicante. What a place! We'll get the pics on Flickr when we have a good Internet connection.

So for the rest of the day we had a nice day sitting by the pool, with drinks and nibbles. Sun at last!

Later, we picked up Trevor from the airport via Alicante Harbour, followed by coffee on the beach at El-Altet.

Day 3 - 29 July

It was time for an explore and to show Jay some of Spain. So Sally and Trevor loaded us into their convertible Saab and off we went.

We went to a beautiful village called Guadalest, where we took hundreds of pics. Then we headed to the Fuentes Al'Gar waterfalls to cool down and, again, it was stunning. But, to balance the 'niceness' with something trashy, we then headed to Benidorm!!! Blackpool on the beach. Vile, but fun.

Day 4 - 30 July

We took another trip and had a mooch round the markets. The it was time to head back to the house and have a relaxing day by the pool. Just what the Doctor ordered - now we're very relaxed!

We were not happy, though, when we realised that we were about to head off from 38c and sunny to 19c and cloudy, when we head to England. Got to love British summers (not!)

Day 5 - 31 July

Today we're heading back to the Airport to fly back to Brighton for a big Pride weekend. It's time to say goodbye to our wonderful hosts - Sally & Trevor, who have looked after us so well (thanks very much guys! We look forward to reciprocating when you come over to Oz.)

Really looking forward to catching up with some old friends there.

Got to go now... time to pack and shower.

More updates to follow from Brighton.

G & J xXx
